The Town of Manchester, VT (population 4,300; 42.67 square miles) is accepting applications for a Part-Time, per diem Public Safety Dispatcher. This critical position involves dispatching services for the Manchester Police and Fire Departments, Northshire Rescue Squad, and the East Dorset and Arlington Fire Departments out of our recently renovated, state-of-the-art Dispatch Center. The dispatcher will be responsible for handling emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring the safety and security of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer and prioritize emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, providing prompt and accurate information to the appropriate response units.
- Monitor multiple communication channels, including radio, telephone, and computer systems, to coordinate timely and effective responses.
- Maintain accurate records of all communications, calls, and dispatches using the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Ensure seamless communication between all public safety departments and responding units.
- Collaborate with other agencies and departments as needed to provide comprehensive public safety services.
- Handle inquiries and provide information to the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of dispatch procedures and protocols.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in emergency dispatching or a related field preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations calmly and efficiently.
- Must pass a background check.
Work Schedule:
- There is no set schedule for this position. This is a part-time, per diem position covering other dispatchers’ vacations, sick time, and the like.
- The selected candidate must be available and willing to work all days and hours, sometimes on short notice, including weekends and holidays regardless of weather conditions.
Salary & Compensation:
- Selected candidates who are new to employment will begin employment in the range of $23.00 to $24.95. There may be a rate increase following training. Previous dispatching experience may qualify for a higher rate of pay.
