Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to provide essential in-home support. The individual requires assistance with personal care, activities of daily living (ADLs), community engagement, and access. The ideal candidate will be patient, understanding, and able to facilitate the individual’s independence and participation in the community. Entry rate of $18.40 per hour, will increase to $20.00 at the successful completion of the introductory period and required DDA and organization training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care Assistance: Support with daily personal care tasks, including hygiene, dressing, and grooming, ensuring comfort and dignity.
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, and other daily living activities to promote independence within her home.
- Community Engagement: Facilitate the individual’s access to community activities, including trips to the community pool, shopping excursions, and other recreational outings. Encourage participation and engagement in these activities.
- Communication Support: Assist using their computer for text communication, helping to express their needs and preferences effectively.
- Transportation Assistance: Provide support with driving their scooter to various locations, ensuring their safety and comfort during outings.
- Collaboration with Nursing Staff: Work in conjunction with the individuals nursing support services for health case management, nursing plan development, and medication oversight, ensuring coordinated care.
Candidate Qualities:
- Previous experience in personal support or caregiving, particularly with individuals with disabilities, is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to facilitate text-based communication and effective engagement.
- Ability to assist with mobility and transportation needs, particularly with scooter use.
- Excellent organizational skills to the individual’s daily schedule
- Flexibility and adaptability to adjust support based on changing needs and preferences.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Valid Non-Provisional Driver’s License.
- Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Previous experience in caregiving or a related field is a plus but not required.
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Must pass background checks and any required training certifications.
- Willing and able to transport individuals with disabilities using a company vehicle and/or your personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement), within Montgomery County and the surrounding Washington, D.C. metro area
